CACMR Celebrates the 96th Saudi National Day in Ottawa
Ottawa, Ontario | September 28, 2026 — The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) was honoured to participate in the 96th Saudi National Day Reception in Ottawa, hosted by Her Excellency Amal Yahya Almoalimi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Canada.
Representing the Congress, President and Chair Abdullatif Al-Shaikh joined members of the diplomatic community, government officials, and distinguished guests in celebrating the Kingdom’s rich heritage, remarkable achievements, and continued progress. The reception provided a welcoming setting to celebrate Saudi Arabia’s national identity and recognize the friendship between Canada and the Kingdom.
The evening also offered an opportunity to strengthen relationships with diplomatic representatives and Canadian officials. Such gatherings support mutual understanding and provide space for conversations about shared interests and opportunities for closer cooperation between Canada and countries across the Middle East and North Africa.
During the reception, Mr. Al-Shaikh had the pleasure of reconnecting with his friend, the Honourable David J. McGuinty, Canada’s Minister of National Defence. Their conversation included CACMR’s proposed Canada–MENA Defence and Security Conference, an initiative intended to bring together Canadian and regional perspectives for constructive dialogue on defence and security.
Being developed in partnership with the NATO Association of Canada, the proposed conference seeks to encourage exchanges among government representatives, diplomats, policy specialists, and other relevant stakeholders. Its objectives include strengthening mutual understanding, examining shared challenges, and exploring opportunities for continued engagement between Canada and the region.
The conversation with Minister McGuinty provided an opportunity to draw attention to this initiative as CACMR continues its planning and outreach. Engagement with the Department of National Defence is intended to explore the conference’s objectives, proposed agenda, anticipated outcomes, and potential alignment with Canada’s regional priorities. CACMR looks forward to continuing these discussions and developing a program that supports informed and productive exchanges.
Participation in the Saudi National Day Reception reflects the Congress’s broader commitment to building relationships across diplomatic, government, business, and community networks. Through these connections, CACMR works to promote dialogue and encourage cooperation between Canada and the peoples of the Middle East and North Africa.
CACMR extends its sincere appreciation to Her Excellency Ambassador Almoalimi and the Embassy of Saudi Arabia for their gracious hospitality and for hosting a memorable celebration. The evening brought together friends and partners in a spirit of mutual respect and goodwill.
On this special occasion, the Congress offers its warmest wishes to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership, and its people for continued prosperity, peace, and success. CACMR looks forward to the continued strengthening of Canada–Saudi Arabia relations and to further opportunities for dialogue, friendship, and cooperation.
