The Canada Arab Congress on Middle East and North Africa Relations (CACMR) extends its warmest congratulations to The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, appointed Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship in the Government of Canada, marking a historic milestone as the first woman of Arab descent to hold this prestigious role. This achievement underscores her steadfast dedication and exceptional competence, highlighting the growing influence of the Arab community in shaping Canada’s future.
Representing Halifax West as a Liberal MP, The Honourable Lena Metlege Diab has forged a trailblazing career, from being the first Lebanese-Canadian woman elected to a Canadian legislature to spearheading innovative immigration policies in Nova Scotia. Her vision for fostering inclusion and equality embodies Canada’s core values and inspires future generations to build a thriving society.
We also celebrate the election of a distinguished group of MPs of Arab and MENA descent to the 2025 Canadian Parliament, including MP Faisal El-Khoury (Laval-Les Îles, Quebec, Liberal Party), MP Ziad Aboultaif (Edmonton Manning, Alberta, Conservative Party), MP Abdelhaq Sari (Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Quebec, Liberal Party), and MP Fares Al-Saud (Ontario, Liberal Party), the second Palestinian-Canadian MP following the late Pierre de Bané (1968–1979). We further recognize long-serving MPs such as Hon. Ahmed Hussen (Liberal – York South–Weston, Ontario), of Somali origin and former Minister of Immigration, and Hon. Ali Ehsassi (Liberal – Willowdale), of Iranian descent, recently appointed Minister of Government Transformation in March 2025. Additionally, we welcome the election of MP Sima Acan, the first MP of Turkish descent, who secured the riding of Oakville West, Ontario, for the Liberal Party.
CACMR also commends Arab, Turkish, and other Middle Eastern and North African communities for shaping Canada’s future through multiculturalism and equality. We are confident that these esteemed MPs will tackle key issues like the economy, housing, immigration, and the environment, fostering Canada’s aspirations and ties with the region.

في البرلمان الكندي الجديد
يتقدم الكونغرس الكندي العربي لعلاقات الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا بأسمى آيات التهنئة للنائبة لينا متلج دياب بمناسبة تعيينها وزيرة للهجرة في الحكومة الكندية الفيدرالية، كأول امرأة من أصول عربية تتولى هذا المنصب الرفيع. يُعد هذا الإنجاز التاريخي شهادة على تفاني النائبة دياب وكفاءتها العالية، ويبرز الدور المتزايد للجالية العربية في صياغة مستقبل كندا.
السيدة النائبة دياب، التي تمثل دائرة هاليفاكس ويست عن الحزب الليبرالي، قدمت مسيرة رائدة، من كونها أول امرأة لبنانية تُنتخب في هيئة تشريعية كندية إلى قيادتها لسياسات هجرة مبتكرة في نوفا سكوشا. رؤيتها لتعزيز الاندماج والمساواة تُجسد قيم كندا وتُلهم أجيالاً جديدة لبناء مجتمع مزدهر.
كما نحتفي بانتخاب مجموعة متميزة من النواب من أصول عربية في البرلمان الكندي لعام 2025، وهم فيصل الخوري (كيبيك، الحزب الليبرالي)، زياد أبو لطيف (ألبرتا، الحزب المحافظ)، عبد الحق ساري (كيبيك، الحزب الليبرالي)، وفارس السعود (أونتاريو، الحزب الليبرالي) ثاني نائب من أصل فلسطيني بعد بيير دي بانيه (1968–1979). كما نُشيد بالدور المتواصل لعدد من النواب ذوي الأصول الشرق أوسطية، من بينهم معالي أحمد حسين (الحزب الليبرالي – أونتاريو، من أصل صومالي) وزير الهجرة الأسبق، ومعالي علي إحساسي (الحزب الليبرالي – تورونتو، من أصل إيراني) الذي تم تعيينه وزيرًا لتحول الحكومة والخدمات العامة في مارس 2025. كذلك نرحب بانتخاب سيما أجان، أول نائبة من أصول تركية، التي فازت بمقعد دائرة أوكفيل ويست في أونتاريو عن الحزب الليبرالي.
ان الكونغرس اذا يشيد بجهود والتزام الجاليات العربية والتركية وغيرها من منطقة الشرق الاوسط وشمال افريقيا للمشاركة الحثيثة في رسم مستقبل كندا السياسي والاقتصادي والثقافي في ظل تعزيز التعددية الثقافية والمساواة، فانه يثق بأن قيادة هؤلاء السيدات والسادة النواب المنتخبين ستسهم في معالجة قضايا حيوية تشمل التعددية والاقتصاد، الإسكان، الهجرة، والبيئة، وتسعى لدعم تطلعات المجتمع الكندي في تعزيز التعاون الاقتصادي والتفاهم الثقافي العالمي ولا سيما لتوطيد علاقاته التاريخية مع منطقة الشرق الاوسط وشمال افريقيا.

Le Congrès canado-arabe sur les relations au Moyen-Orient et en Afrique du Nord (CCRAM) adresse ses plus chaleureuses félicitations à l’honorable Lena Metlege Diab, nommée ministre de l’Immigration, des Réfugiés et de la Citoyenneté au sein du gouvernement du Canada. Cette nomination marque une étape historique, faisant d’elle la première femme d’origine arabe à occuper ce poste prestigieux. Cette réussite souligne son dévouement inébranlable et son exceptionnelle compétence, et met en lumière l’influence croissante de la communauté arabe sur l’avenir du Canada.
Députée libérale de Halifax-Ouest, l’honorable Lena Metlege Diab a mené une carrière remarquable, devenant la première femme libano-canadienne élue à une assemblée législative canadienne et pilotant des politiques d’immigration novatrices en Nouvelle-Écosse.
